Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a gentle manual therapy where skeletal frame and soft tissues (muscles, joints, etc.) are manipulated by hand to promote health and restore the proper motion of the body’s structures. It was developed by Andrew Taylor Still in the United States around the end of the 19th century. Since then, it has spread to the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

It requires a through knowledge of anatomy and physiology, as well as, trained hands to palpate and manipulate the body.

The Principals of Osteopathy are:

  1. The body is a dynamic unit of function.

  2. The body possesses the ability to self-heal and self-correct.

  3. Structure and Function are reciprocally interrelated

  4. Rational treatment is based upon an understanding of these three.
